Art is an important part of the environment of Centro de Conferencias. Wherever one turns, inside or outside the buildings, art is on display as wall decorations and murals, oil paintings and stone sculptures, and one building is dedicated to an exhibition of Mexican arts and crafts from all over the country. Art awakens the human interest and spirit, and it adds to the guests’ inspiration and imagination as they engage in serious conversations and discussions during a conference.
Artist Lin Utzon
The work of Lin Utzon can be seen both inside and outside the buildings. Her huge ceramic tile murals cover walls and facades with colors and motives inspired by the magnificent natural surroundings of the Conference Center. Each of the guest rooms is decorated with one of her paintings.
Lin Utzon, sister to the architect Jan Utzon, is an acclaimed artist. Her work includes a series of porcelain pieces made for the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Factory, decorations for the head office of Volvo in Stockholm and the San Jose Convention Center in California, as well as several art exhibitions.
African Stone Sculptures
The Conference Center has an extensive collection of African stone sculptures. In Zimbabwe in Southern Africa, a group of artists has given rise to a tradition of making stone sculptures that in the last sixty years has garnered respect from the oldest and best-established traditions of sculptural work all over the world. The sculptures present a mixture of traditional storytelling, folklore, myths, and modern expressions of life. Each sculpture has a compelling name, which opens a window into the story, wisdom, or emotions conveyed by the artist.
Mexican Art Collection
The Conference Center has gathered a collection of arts and crafts pieces from all regions of Mexico. Mexico is home to one of the world’s ancient civilizations, the Maya, dating back at least 4000 years. Mexican folk art is a combination of art created as items of human expression and items with a purpose, such as pottery, woven rugs, colorful textiles, and more.
The Mexican art collection at the Conference Center gives guests a glimpse of the great natural and cultural diversity existing in Mexico.
